Superman
Superman, real name Kal-El, secret identity Clark Kent, first appeared in Action Comics #1, after being sold by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster in 1938 to DC Comics (at the time it was Detective Comics)
He came from the planet Kyrpton in a spaceship as an infant sent by his father Jor-El moments before Krypton’s destruction. He was found by Jonathan and Martha Kent, two farmers, who looked upon his arrival as a miracle and raised him. They named him Clark Kent and taught him the values of honesty, virtue, and selflessness. Clark gained most of his powers through his teenage years. These powers being superhuman strength, speed, stamina, invulnerability, regeneration, super breath, heat vision, x-ray vision, microscopic vision, telescopic vision, and flight.
He went on to work at the Daily Planet, a Metropolis newspaper, as Clark, where he met his true love Lois Lane. He has a large number of enemies including Lex Luthor, Braniac, General Zod, and Darkseid. With special mention to Doomsday, who eventually killed Superman in the Death of Superman comic.
Superman has been portrayed in comics, TV series, films, and games. He has been played by Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, Dean Cain, Kirk Alyn, George Reeves, Tom Welling, and, In 2012, Henry Cavill.
