Interview with Crimson Visions Colin Bass.
Crimson Vision Studios was founded by Colin Bass and Sean Swanson when their first video, The Quest for Comic Booked, got bigger than either of them anticipated. The two friends sat down and decided to turn what was supposed to be a one shot video, into an ongoing series. They decided they wanted to do a live action-super hero web series loosely based on The Crimson Blur’s origin story. (A 16 page comic that was published by Comic Booked LLC. More copies will be made soon!) Season 1 of The Quest Saga just finished, but it is nowhere near the end of the story. Colin and Sean have a planned storyline with tons of different heroes, villains, and plot twists that you won’t see coming.

So let’s start the interview shall we…
Hollywood: So Colin tell us how long you have been working on the series and making your own videos?
Colin: First of all, thank you for the opportunity to be featured on your site! We love it. Anyways, we started the series back in late September, but at that point we didn’t know it was a series, Haha. We started our production studio at the beginning of October, then we were absorbed by Comic Booked shortly after that. It’s been a crazy journey, but it has been so much fun.
Hollywood: It sounds like you got noticed quickly but how has it developed from then? How have you got to where you are now?
Colin: Well I’m lucky enough to have a team of very talented, smart, young friends who help me in a lot of ways. Sean, AKA Bruce Balbowski, really keeps me grounded and realistic, all while supporting my creative flow of ideas. We have an awesome web guy named Randy, AKA Jade Sorcerer. We talk daily about new promotional plans and ideas to help us gain recognition in the comic book industry. I’ve also had a lot of help from Will Sokolowski, the CEO of Comic Booked.
Hollywood: Sounds great. Who and what were yours and your teams main influences in the first place?
Colin: Definitely Smallville and Justice League(Animated Series). I grew up watching that show every week with my Dad and re-watching the episodes when they came to DVD. A huge inspiration to me are all of the people over at Bat In The Sun. They make amazing quality super hero shows without any help from DC. They rock.
Hollywood: I know a lot of people loved the Smalville series but to be inspired by shows like them and taking something from it and making it your own is awesome. What are your favourite things to film then?
Colin: Haha, well there’s an on going joke that I am beginning to have a bit of an identity crisis because I love portraying a super hero so much. So my favorite would have to be all of the scenes where I get to dress up as Crimson Blur and kick butt! I wish I could do it all of the time. It’s A LOT of running, but the final product is so worth it. I love choreographing the fight moves too.
Hollywood: I saw your first video(Episode 1: The Quest for Comic Booked) and you were running a lot!! So with the success so far, what are your plans for the future?
Colin: Well, we have season 2 coming up in February and we are going to get gnarly this season. We are getting some legit graphics so we can increase production value and make some epic scenes. You can expect new heroes, villains, merchandise, and A LOT more character development. But as for long term…I could see us pitching a pilot episode to Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network. But that’s wishful thinking…
Hollywood: So you are a Co-Owner/Founder with Sean Swanson, tell us about the different jobs you guys do?
Colin: Sean is a very talented dude, I’d be lost without him. He has a certain eye that I lack when it comes to directing and filming. So he handles editing, directing, filming, and most importantly…acting. The kids LOVE Bruce Balbowski. I handle everything on the creative/promotional side. I do character creations, write the episodes, and choreograph the fight scenes. And tons of different online promoting, I’m still learning though.
Hollywood: Do you have a fan base yet?
Colin: Well aside from all of our friends in real life, we have a lot of homies from the Smallville IMDB board/Blurrific fan group who support us. (Thanks guys! You’re the best!) I also work at an after school daycare program, and all of the kids love the series. Bruce Balbowski is their favorite, they quote him daily.
Also, we wouldn’t have gone nearly as far without the help and support from Comic Booked LLC. Check out www.ComicBooked.com for more Crimson Blur updates!
Hollywood: They like Bruce Balbowski the best? Not the main hero?
Colin: That’s what I’m sayin’!!! But to be honest, I’m just glad they like us so much.
Thanks for telling us about your Video series Colin. Interesting stuff… Ok fans here is there first video we were talking about below, Enjoy!!
