REVIEW: Wonder Woman Movie Trailer #2
June 1, 2017 By Brett Jett
O–M–G! When this trailer was first playing, I burst into tears! Diana says in a resounding voice, “I used to want to save the world”. It was cathartic, because *I* used to want to save the world!! All those years ago, as a youth…but unlike Diana, I didn’t grow up in ideal conditions…I was in the ghetto, endeavoring that someday I’d rise out of it and help make changes to our extremely messed up society…many youths in my neighborhood wanted to. That is, before I turned my back on Mainstream society and created my own private home-living along with some like-minded family of friends, isolating ourselves in safety.
I can FEEL the optimism in Wonder Gal that I once had!
But it appears the movie will be a story within a story. Diana walks into some French archival library…much like the ones I was in during my 10-year research of William Moulton Marston…and pulls out an old photo of her and the “gang” back in the day. Perhaps the whole origin story will actually be one big reminiscing flashback. That would be cool. Also cool are more of the teal and turquoise colors in Paradise island!!
But there’s some more things in this trailer that I like. Like the Amazons finally being portrayed doing extreme stunts like I know they can…..Diving off cliffs, then shooting safety lines into solid rock while still in mid free fall! Holy sh*#! That’s the kinda thing I’m glad to see portrayed in live action!
How the heck did those Nazi soldiers even FIND Paradise Island?
Oh, and yet another reminder (for my last Trailer review) on what a very good secretary Diana is, or could be!
And from the looks it all, it appears the Wonder Gal incarnation will have an origin similar to that on the animated Justice League show. Where it doesn’t involves a Contest, but rather Diana defying mother and grabbing the battle gear to head off straight to Man’s World. Plus partly based on (unfortunately) the Perez Reboot, in that the Amazons don’t practice Bullets & Bracelets. Rather, its something Diana discovers on her own because she’s the only one with superspeed.
Nonetheless, the symbolism is still there….her deflecting bullets for the first time in Man’s World represents the power of her disciplined humane heart protecting against aggression!!
And they use Bullet Time! Just as I had envisioned a WW movie would have. How many times in the Lynda Carter version have we seen what happens to the bullets when she deflects them? NONE. This is so cool. Its how a person with superspeed would see the bullets coming. VERY accurate. But it also echoes back to THE MATRIX…of ones mind slowing down time too.
Thank gawd for CGI, which makes possible the impossible acrobatics that WW is known for, as well as badasz fight sequences with what appears to be Ares in military garb.
But Wonder Gal is apparently based on the New 52, since Zeus is her father, her bracelets electrify with power, waiting to be unleashed!! Good thing she has those bracelets to keep her under control. Remember folks, power must be kept under control by altruism and love, and not let loose by the destructive Ego! (Read my “Bracelets of Submission” article for more info on this).
Aaaaannd, like last time….this trailer ends with a bit of comedy, as humor has always been an element of the original WW mythos! (“Live, Love, & LAUGH) Thank Zack Snyder for remembering to include it!
This time Diana is trying on a disguise of the times, wondering how a woman can fight in such garb. Etta expresses that she’s not opposed to doing fisticuffs when its time to…basically echoing the Etta Candy we know from the Golden Age who regularly beat the badguys silly! LOL
