8 Actors Who Nearly Became Spider-Man
December 15, 2016 By Jon Somers
A late 80’s adaptation planned to have Tom Cruise as Peter Parker, Bob Hoskins as Doctor Octopus and Lauren Bacall as Aunt May.
Charlie Sheen tried to buy the rights to Spider-Man and got as far as pitching Orion Pictures a film with himself in the title role. That would have been a very wild Spiderman indeed
In this adaptation Arnold Schwarzenegger was going to play Doctor Octopus and Edward Furlong, his Terminator 2: Judgement Day co-star, would be Peter Parker. WHAT!
James Camron wanted his Titanic star to lead in this film but alas it wasn’t to be. This is one of those that could have been very good and meant Leo would have won an Oscar quicker
At the time, Law’s representatives said: ”There have been some overtures about it. Jude has been a Spider-Man fanatic since he was a kid.” Alas, it never came to pass.
Franco played Harry Osborn in Sam Raimi’s films, but he originally auditioned for – and came close to getting – the title role.
When Tobey Maguire injured his back making Seabiscuit, his friend Gyllenhaal came very close to replacing him in Spider-Man 2; he even got in shape at Spider-Man “boot camp”.
An elaborate audition tape released online, showing him beating up a gang of thugs, proved he was more than capable. The part eventually went to Andrew Garfield.
