August 19, 2016 By Jon Somers
Suicide Squad continues to break box office records, despite the bashing it got from the critics. Last weekend broke the record for most successful August launch a is now on the verge of beating this year’s biggest superhero movie.
Suicide Squad took $14.27 million in North America during its first Tuesday, breaking an August record which was held by Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy which took $11.9 million.
On top of this, Suicide Squad’s $14.27 million first Tuesday box office takings is greater than Captain America: Civil War’s at $13.76 million, Avengers: Age of Ultron’s $13.1 million and Batman v Superman’s $12.7 million first Tuesday figures.
It seems the one thing to guarantee a successful opening is for critics to criticise a a film with a huge historic fan base.
