Wonder Woman- The Wonderful 8’s
March 23, 2016 By Brett Jett
The number eight is inevitably attached to Wonder Woman!
No, not because she may be known as the Eighth (or Ninth) Wonder of the world. But because of more incredible incidental reasons. I don’t believe it was planned by anyone at DC (including William Moulton Marston himself) to be that way. Call it fate or karma. But to put it simply, I recognize it as the work of the gods, non-human forces. It doesn’t matter if you believe in the supernatural or not, or if you write it off as coincidence. The fact remains, there have been eight major synchronicities that attach 8 to Wonder Woman:
1.) She debuted in All Star Comics number 8.
2.) That comicbook issue came out in October, which historically used to be the 8th month.
3.) It took 8 months from WMM’s script submission in February to WW’s debut in October….as well as 8 months from Sensation Comics #1’s debut (November) for “Wonder Woman” #1 to come out (July).
4.) WMM designed her personality to be that of an Enneagram Type 8.
5.) The Magic Lasso on the cover of “Wonder Woman” #1 forms a figure 8.
6.) If you split the number 8 straight down the center, each half would fall by the waysides and then you’d have WW’s initials! (And vice versa.)
7.) The star symbol is associated with WW, as it is on her tiara…and on a standard keyboard, the asterix (which could be construed as a type of star symbol) is located on the ‘8’ key.
8.) And now, her tiara…with the new “Wonder Gal” incarnation…has an 8-pointed starburst instead of a five-pointed redstar!
So there you have it! The Wonderful eight synchronicities!!
So all you writers out there…..if ever, for instance, you put Diana in a situation where she must wear a sports jersey, make hers the number 8. Its only appropriate!
And with Wonder Woman getting her own solo movie, a completer origin story, among other current productions and much more to come, things are looking a lot better for the Amazon Maiden than they have even just a decade ago when it looked as though she would fade out of popularity or publication.
You know what that means? There’s one other major association with 8. The number eight turned on its side is also the infinity symbol. At the rate that Wonder Woman is going with her popularity & conscious visibility during this Renaissance Era of hers, she stands to endure for as long as any other superhero character. Take that, Batman!
Wonder Woman forever!!!!!!!!
