4 Must-Have Cocktails – The ‘Batman vs. Superman’ Edition
March 22, 2016 By Holly Clarkson
One of the most anticipated movies of the season also features two of your favorite superheroes. To celebrate the release of this blockbuster, why not treat yourself to some drinks inspired by these two larger-than-life characters?
While some superheroes don’t have enough history to have cocktails inspired by their greatness, both Superman and Batman have a legacy that has spawned cocktails that embody their respective characters, weaknesses or enemies. Here’s a look at some cocktails inspired by your favorite superheroes.
The Bruce Wayne
Is it any surprise at all that a superhero who’s also a multibillion-dollar playboy would have a cocktail named after him? No, it’s not. What’s even less surprising is what’s in this bad boy of a cocktail. This concoction requires a shaker, 4.5 ounces of black coffee, 2 ounces of bourbon and .5 ounces of maple syrup.
No ice included in the glass, as Bruce Wayne never comes watered down — and the Bruce Wayne cocktail is made to keep you up all night, the same hours that its namesake plies his vigilant trade.
While it’s not known if The Joker will make an appearance in the Batman vs. Superman movie, don’t count anything out. If Bruce Wayne has a cocktail on this list, it’s only fair for his nemesis to have one as well.
The Joker cocktail is predictably sweet, but packs a punch with its grape Jolly Rancher-infused vodka, of which you’ll use 3 ounces. Then mix with 1/4 ounce lime juice, toss in the twist and top off with seltzer water. While this cocktail might not keep you up like the Bruce Wayne, it will keep you silly until the early morning.
The False God
The title of this drink, taken straight from the movie, is named so for its deceptively sweet, yet strongly alcoholic blend. The False God cocktail requires some specific ingredients, including a 151 proof rum of which you’ll need just .5 ounces. Then 1 ounce Blue Curacao, 1 ounce of Captain Morgan’s Coconut Rum and a dash of grenadine syrup.
While this cocktail doesn’t hide its potency, it does have a sweet flavor that can lead you down the wrong path if you’re not careful.
While there is only one kryptonite that does any damage to Clark Kent, there’s a plethora of variants for this cocktail, and you’ll need an extensive liqueur cabinet to pull this off. Here’s the list: 1/2 ounce gin, 1/2 ounce rum, white, 1/2 ounce Schnapps, Blue Hawaiian, blueberry, 1/2 ounce Triple Sec, 1/2 ounce vodka, 2 splashes of orange juice, 2 splashes sour mix and 2 splashes of Sprite.
To prepare, shake all the ingredients with ice except the Sprite. Then strain it into a glass and top it off with Sprite. Stir. It should be a greenish-blue color like kryptonite.
Variants of this recipe are scattered across the Internet, and you might ask yourself which Kryptonite Cocktail is the official one, but the truth is, this drink is more about appearance than a specific flavor.
