London Super Comic Convention/ Cosplay Report
March 18, 2015 By Alex Eyre
In London this weekend while vintage cars rolled up on Southbank and the Guinness was flowing for St Patrick’s Day in Trafalgar Square, comic book fans flocked to Excel Centre where The Super Comic Convention was taking place.
L.S.C.C. is one of the UK’s largest and most exciting comic convention. Its halls played host to the latest and greatest in comics, comic related memorabilia, superheroes and graphic novels. Also hosting panel talks, Cosplay contests and autograph sessions that gave fans a chance to interact with their favourite creators and artists of their favourite comics.
With this in mind, the President of WOS and I packed our bags and headed down to London to see what there was on offer, and as soon we arrived in London’s St. Pancras station it was obvious that it was Comicon weekend, as various Cosplayers were scattered throughout the green painted St Patrick’s Day patrons and London commuters.
On Arriving at the L.S.C.C. we wasted no time, quickly checked into the “Sunborn London”( a yacht/hotel very reasonably priced and docked literally a stone’s throw of the front door to the Excel centre) left our bags want set off. As always the L.S.C.C. had a line as long as the centre itself for those who did not purchase an early bird ticket (recommended!) but then again the British do love to queue ha-ha. Even with the hordes of comic book fans outside waiting for their time to enter, inside was already quite busy and full of the atmosphere I love about these places. Everyone happy and enthusiastic, sharing there ‘inner geek’, is there anything better?
A large part of the event focused on the Cosplay contest, but whether they were there for the competition or just for the day out, Cosplay is fun! So of cause hundreds of different comic book, game and movie characters could be found wondering the lanes in some truly amazing (and revealing) outfits!
Along with the normal there was also some quite unique ones too with 3D printing stalls making there own figures, a SyFy action camera booth taking 360 videos of you in your cosplay, family cosplay picture sets, the guy from Storage Wars and the Walking Dead booth, with its own group of wondering Zombies!!
The Make-A-Wish Foundation was also there and had teamed up with L.S.C.C. to run a very special charity raffle event over the convention weekend. They has a selection of very special items up for grabs that had been generously donating by some of the costumed guests, including signed prints, posters and accessories from Yaya-Han!. All proceeds went to help grant wishes of those children battling life threatening conditions, those who truly do need Heroes.
Ill not go into listing off everyone who was there as the guest list can be found on the L.S.C.C. website, but I will say it was an amazing weekend fill with artists, actors, directors, Cosplay, comics and memorabilia. I look forward to the next one this summer and send a special thanks out to our President for taking me along for the ride.
